Emburse Expense is an enterprise SaaS platform for managing employee spending. To improve usability, we redesigned the UI/UX to reduce manual steps using machine learning and AI features. Automated smart expense report creation saves users time and effort, creating a more seamless and intuitive experience.
Challenge
The app's outdated and cluttered interface was not intuitive for users which dropped user retention on the product. Users also had to go through multiple different steps to complete their tasks. The goal was to make the app more user-friendly and less engaging.
Results
90% of the app was redesigned with new design system which increased major usability.
AI powered automation feature reduced user engagement about 30% on daily tasks.
Sync receipt capturing app and auto expense increased user satisfaction and success rate on report submissions.
Annual recurring revenue reached $280M, with $13M+ year-over-year growth and an 18% YTD increase.
Process
Research & Analysis: With user interview, product assessment and client survey, we studied pain points of users. Based on this study, we built user journey and flow of the current app experience.
Information Architect: Based on new user journey map, we were able to create new user flow that is more intuitive and lean. We also made sure each connect points between receipt capture, mobile expense and desktop expense apps.
Wireframing & Prototyping: With the new user flow, we built low fidelity wireframe with new features and connection points. We then iterate the design and created high fidelity prototypes.
Usability Testing: We conducted user testing with the high fidelity prototypes. With the user testing, we were able to find few points to make edits for feasibility.
Delivery & Launch: After iterations, we delivered final design for deploy. We documented all changes through confluence and story board.
Conclusion
Improved user friendly interface successfully led the Emburse Analytics success. It was proven by the apps increased user engagement and recurring revenues with positive reviews from satisfied users.
